Upgrading to Windows 7

I need to decide whether or not to upgrade to Windows 7. What should I know about this new software and how do I make sure it runs smoothly on my older computer. What’s the best way to get the software and what’s the best Windows 7 registry cleaner available? What else do I need to know about upgrading and cleaning my computer once I get the new program. I have a lot of questions because although I’m a Windows user, I’m not always happy with the performance and have even considered a move to Mac in the past. Advice is appreciated.
