Researching a new home theater stereo system

My wife and I recently completed a new home. The structural work is complete but we still need to furnish certain areas of the home. One area that needs a great deal of attention is the home cinema room. This room has been designed as an entertainment room for the whole family. We love to watch movies on a Sunday night. Although I have some equipment left over from the last home we lived in I have place my wife in charge of investigating a new home theater stereo system. The unit must be suitable for watching movies, gaming and enjoying major sporting events. Although she has been given a budget she is a diligent researcher and I know that by the time she is through with her research that she will have uncovered the best system to suit our needs.
