How to estimate construction requirements

When I first decided to take charge of my home renovation project I really didn’t know where to start. All I knew was that I liked the idea of a challenge and thought that a little investigation would turn up the knowledge that I needed. Trying to work out how to estimate construction was the biggest challenge. All the quotes I got varied quite considerably so it was difficult to know which one was accurate. I had heard horror stories of work being underestimated to get the job that would later blow out half way through the project. Fortunately, doing due diligence is my strong point so I was able to work through to the information I need to make smart decisions.
