Many of us have mail slots rather than mail boxes.

I live in a small neighborhood. I am friends with all of my neighbors. We are a tight knit community. We are more like family than friends or neighbors. Most of us have mail slots rather than mail boxes. Our postman walks through the neighborhood, delivering the mail. He walks up onto our porches, and he drops the mail in the slots. The mail comes right into our homes. I often greet the postman at the door, so he hands me my mail. When something is too large to place in the mail slot, the postman rings the doorbell or knocks on the door to hand us the package. If the package is too large for the postman to carry on his route, he places a card in the mail slot that can be taken to the local post office to pick up the package.
