At their 2005 summit in Gleneagles, Scotland, the G-8 committed to raise aid by US$50 billion; but are still US$31.4 billion short. Aid fell by 8.4 per cent in 2007, after a 4.7 per cent fall in 2006.
Debt relief under the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) initiative and Multilateral Debt Relief initiative (MDRI) dominated aid over the last two years. It is questionable whether this debt relief should really count as ODA since the debts are unlikely to have been repaid (an issue discussed in our book).The G-8 committed to raise ODA to US$130 billion by 2010 at the Hokkaido summit this year. Will it happen? Bailing out the banking system will put pressure on aid budgets, although ODA is actually tiny in comparison.
Thus the US government is spending US$700 billion to help the financial system, while US aid was $22 billion in 2007. The so-called ‘new donors’ such as India and China will make their presence felt at Doha, and there is a drive to encourage them to become OECD-DAC members.

Kids will always be kids and it is really a very nice thing to make things work. I know that there are just so many things that will be needed for my daughter’s birthday party. I am just glad that at least we get to have the candy favors now to make things work right. For me, having the candy favors is so right. I know just how kids love to have all of these sweet things handy. For sure, they would get to love the candy favors and for me that is really very amazing. Now, I only have to take care of the other things needed because this one is already solved.

Just what IS a culture of innovation?

I keep reading articles about creating a “culture of innovation.” I’ve been wondering for awhile just what it means. It’s a great expression - but what would that mean for our company, and for me? My supervisor recently took our team on an off-site. The topic was “innovation.” He had lots of great things to say. But at one point I asked him, “Just HOW do we do this? You talk about generating lots of fresh, new ideas - but how? We have jobs to do. We have assigned responsibilities, individually and as a team. How do we do it?” He got a little annoyed, I think, mostly because he didn’t have an answer. I suspect his boss initiated this whole innovation thing, and he was doing his job. I spent some time on the Internet researching this. And what I realized is that if you want to build a cathedral, you need tools. You can have the best plans in the world - but without a hammer, saw, screwdriver, etc, you will never build it. A “culture of innotation” starts at the foundation - with real world innovation tools. Keep piling brick on to of brick, and eventually you’ve created a monument.

I Love Decorating

I’ve always been fascinated with decorating, and thought that my house reflected that well. There just seemed to be a lack of continuity that was flowing from my living room to my dining room. I just could not bring these rooms together. In my frustration, I went online and discovered interior design toronto. I’m so glad I did. On Saturday I found myself riding my mountain bike with Stephen. Stephen and I go riding about once a month. We are both fifty five years old so we are about equal when it comes to how far we can ride. One of the things we usually do is take a break after riding for about two hours. On our breaks we trade investing tips with one another. Stephen is quite conservative in his investment approach and sticks with blue chip stocks. I on the other hand am not opposed to look at undervalued stocks that look as if they have room to grow.
