Do I need any special permit or license?

I am going to be travelling around Europe, starting in the UK, for a few months. I want to get a left hand drive 4×4 to use for the trip, and I am wondering whether this is legal and whether it is feasible. Would I need any special permits or licenses to do this? I want to tour England, Spain, France, Italy, and Switzerland. Would this be possible in a left hand drive car? I don’t know much about the laws in these countries regarding driving, so I am trying to find out now while I am in the planning stages of my trip.
