What is a Gong?
July 25th, 2008 by admin
A gong is a musical instrument usually found in Asian countries. They are circular and take the form of a flat metal disc which is hit with a mallet. There are several types of gongs; the suspended gongs, bossed gongs and bowl gongs. Suspended gongs are somewhat flat discs of metal which are vertically suspended on air thru a metal cord which passes through holes near to the top rim. Bossed gongs, on the other hand, are quite like the suspended gongs but they have a raised center boss and often played horizontally. Finally, bowl gongs are of course bowl shaped they rest on cushions and can be considered to belong more to bells. Gongs are often made of metals like bronze or brass, some in alloy and a few in bamboos.
